Angels Camp, CA – The Angels Camp Police Department reports it has halted it investigation and request for the public’s help to find the 47-year-old man who allegedly offered a hotel room to a juvenile.
As reported here, in January police alerted the public that it was seeking information regarding the whereabouts of Victor R. Vanier. He was wanted for questioning regarding an incident involving a high school student that he allegedly invited to share his hotel room with after asking the juvenile if he was homeless. Further investigation discovered that Vanier’s room was paid for by a local church and he had left the area to go to the Modesto Gospel Mission.
On Thursday police released this statement:
“The Angels Camp Police Department is no longer seeking information related to the whereabouts of Vanier. An officer was able to speak with him directly via telephone, and we have closed our investigation into his activity while he was in Angels Camp. Thank you to those that provided information related to this investigation.”
The investigation began after the juvenile told his parents about the incident and they reported it to police.
Vanier reached out to Clarke Broadcasting via telephone, and claimed it was simply a misunderstanding, and he was trying to help a person he believed was homeless.
