California’s Unemployment Rate Dropped In March

Sonora, CA — California’s unemployment rate dropped last month to 4.9-percent, compared to an even five-percent the month prior.

The California Employment Development Department reports that sectors that added jobs include construction, government, manufacturing, health services and hospitality. Areas that posted losses include logging and mining and financial and business services. The unemployment rate in the Mother Lode remains higher than the state average. Tuolumne County is sitting at 6.2-percent and Calaveras County is 5.4-percent. San Mateo County is the lowest in the state at 2.7-percent and Colusa County is the highest at 21.8-percent.
