Update at 9:05p.m.: A hostage situation lasting over five hours in the Phoenix Lake area has ended with the suspect giving himself up. The man was holed up in a residence on Phoenix Lake Road near Phoenix Lake Estates. Tuolumne County Sheriff’s spokesperson Ashley Boujikian reports, “We are happy to report, after hours of negotiations this incident has come to a peaceful resolution. The woman who was being held inside of the home was able to exit the home safely. The man inside has been taken into custody by deputies.” Boujikian added, “Both the man and woman were offered medical aid. No one involved suffered serious injury. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.”
No further information is being released at this time. All roadways in the area that had been closed around the area have reopened.Update at 8:30 p.m.: A hostage situation in the Phoenix Lake area has ended with the suspect giving himself up. Update at 5:50 p.m.: The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s SWAT team remains on the scene of a hostage situation in the Phoenix Lake area. Sheriff’s spokesperson Ashley Boujikian detailed, “Our deputies are actively communicating with a male subject toward a peaceful resolution.” There are reports of a woman also being inside the home.
Currently, these roadways are closed in the area: Bear Cub Drive and Phoenix Lake Road, and at Paseo De Los Portales and Phoenix Lake Road. The public is asked to avoid the area if possible.

Original post at 4:41 p.m.: Sonora, CA – Tuolumne County Sheriff’s deputies are on the scene of an active “hostage situation” in the Phoenix Lake area this afternoon.
Sheriff’s spokesperson Ashley Boujikian tells Clarke Broadcasting that there is limited information at this time. She detailed, “Deputies are on scene at Phoenix Lake Road near Phoenix Lake Estates for a reported hostage situation. We are in the early stages of this investigation and are asking the public to please stay out of the area.”
The sheriff’s SWAT team, including a crisis negotiator, is also on the scene. Boujikian relayed that this is an active scene and more information will be released as it becomes available.
