Sonora, CA – Band music lovers will get their fill on Wednesday night at Sonora High School.
Bands from several local schools will march onto Dunlavy Field to strut their stuff in front of the home crowd. It’s all part of the festivities leading into this weekend’s 60th annual Mother Lode Roundup. The Band Review has been part of that tradition and Sheriff’s Posse Member Jim Opie explains how it came about, “It was created because in the parade it’s a forward motion, it has to keep moving, there cannot be stopping and playing for your crowd. Just historically it’s always been that the bands playing in the parade are invited to the school for their parents to watch and enjoy each band’s performance. It’s about our fans, our families and all of them seeing us perform. That’s what this is all about.”
The bands taking the field this year include the Sonora High Golden Regiment Band, the Summerville High Orange Crush, Curtis Creek Mustang Band, and the Soulsbyville Elementary Marching Falcons. There is an extra treat this year with a joint performance by Sonora, Twain Harte, Jamestown and Chinese Camp elementary school bands.
The Sheriff’s Posse kicks off the free event with the presentation of the colors at 6 p.m. and the music plays on until 9 p.m. Click here for a schedule or go to myMotherlode.com’s multimedia section and click on Mother Lode Views then “Mother Lode Roundup Celebrates 60 Years” to hear all about the events coming up this weekend in the Mother Lode Roundup.
