Sonora, CA — Today the Sonora City Council is expected to take the final step in approving the rezoning for a food court project next to the AM/PM Mini Mart.
Two weeks ago the council voted to approve a rezoning request for the property at 15 Pesce Way, off of Highway 49. The owners, Jaykay Properties, who also have the adjacent mini mart, are planning to construct a building at the former Sonora Motors property that could house up to three fast food style restaurants. The project was approved unanimously on May 1st by the City Council, and tonight’s decision is whether to waive the second reading, and take a third and final vote.
In other business, the city will vote on closing a stretch of Washington Street on Saturday, June 17 for the Special Olympics Torch Run.
In addition, there will be a formal introduction of new acting police chief Turu VanderWiel. Today’s meeting starts at 5pm at City Hall.
