Sacramento, CA — Governor Jerry Brown has sent a letter to President Donald Trump requesting that the environmental review for the high speed rail project be expedited.
The letter specifically asks President Trump to transfer final approval of many environmental reviews to the state’s rail authority. The Associated Press reports that the federal environmental review process is behind schedule on the $64-billion project and it faces an uncertain financial future.
The request comes as the Governor and the President have recently been at odds on a variety of issues, ranging from immigration to climate change. The Governor’s revised May budget proposal includes an additional $6-million to the California Attorney General’s Office related to anticipate litigation involving actions of the federal government.
