Sonora, CA — Following the retirement of Eric Larson at the end of 2016, the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors hired a 1997 Calaveras High School graduate as the new Veterans Service Officer.
Mark Orlando graduated from the US Coast Guard in 2001, and spent 12 years as a commissioned Coast Guard officer.
Orlando’s appointment was approved with a 4-0 vote this morning, with Supervisor John Gray absent. When it came time for a motion for a vote, District Five Supervisor Karl Rodefer stated he “enthusiastically” moved to hire Orlando.
The tasks of the Veterans Service Officer include administering aid to local veterans, investigating related claims and performing any other veteran related services requested by the board.
The position is part-time, and Orlando will receive a salary of $37,730.
