Angels Camp, CA – The CHP reports a husband was seriously injured and his wife was killed in a head-on collision in Calaveras County Friday morning.
The wreck happened around 10:30 a.m. on Highway 4 east of Stallion Way. The CHP reports 52-year-old Ronald Torchia of Columbia was heading westbound on the highway at a speed of between 55 and 60 mph. For unknown reasons he lost control of the 2007 Ford sedan and went onto the shoulder. Torchia then overcorrected, which caused his vehicle to veer into oncoming traffic and smash head-on into a 1997 Nissan, according to the CHP. Inside that vehicle was a couple from Tracy, the husband and driver, 60-year-old Robert Howard and his wife, 58-year-old Nancy. She was in the front passenger seat and was pronounced dead at the scene, while he suffered major injuries and was taken to a Modesto hospital.
Torchia sustained minor injuries. This collision is still under investigation but the CHP has determined that no drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
