Update at 11:30 a.m.: CHP officials have identified the 58-year-old Jamestown woman who died in this morning’s fatal solo wreck as Ann Morgan Hardisonpirruccello.
Update at 10:57 a.m.: CHP officials are reporting that it was a 58-year-old female Jamestown resident who died in this morning’s solo vehicle wreck. According to CHP Sonora Unit spokesperson Officer Faustino Pulido, her identity is being withheld until officers finish notifying her next of kin relatives.
Providing further details, he states, the woman was driving a 1964 Chevrolet Corvair westbound on Highway 120/108 at an unknown speed and was unable to negotiate a left-hand roadway curve after which she overcorrected and over-braked, subsequently spinning out of control before striking a dirt embankment. The vehicle then overturned and slid across both westbound lanes before coming to rest on its roof against a dirt embankment in the center median.
Officer Pulido confirms as she was not wearing a seatbelt, she was partially ejected from the force of the collision and was pronounced dead on-scene.
The incident caused the #1 lane to close for just over two hours while the accident was cleared and officers attended to the scene.
Update at 9:45 a.m.: The CHP reports that the wreckage from a fatal crash has been removed and traffic is moving freely on the westbound lanes of Highway 108 again. One of the westbound lanes was blocked for several hours as tow crews removed the wreckage and debris. (Further details of the accident near Knights Ferry are below.)
Original post at 7:50 a.m.: Knights Ferry, CA — There has been a deadly rollover crash on Highway 108 in Tuolumne County this morning.
The CHP reports one person has died in a wreck near Tulloch Dam Road in the Knights Ferry area. The driver was westbound on the highway when they lost control of the vehicle and it flipped over. The CHP reports the vehicle was leaking gas and first responders found the victim laying on the ground near it. The person was pronounced dead at the scene. One of the westbound lanes is blocked as tow crews are removing the wreckage and debris. Traffic is slow and go.
The wreck happened around 6:40 this morning. We will bring you more details as soon as they come into the newsroom.
