Marking Sexual Assault Awareness Month With Recruitment Dinner

Calaveras County, CA – Calaveras County is marking Sexual Assault Awareness Month with a fundraiser to support new forensic examiners.

The Calaveras County Sexual Assault Response Team (S.A.R.T.) is a coordinated, multi-agency team that assists in investigating known or suspected sexual assaults. On Friday, April 5th, it is hosting a fundraising dinner at the San Andreas Town Hall. The money will be used to recruit and train new sexual assault forensic examiners, allowing victims to be examined locally instead of traveling out of the county.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month, established in 2001, is a national initiative to raise awareness and support victims of sexual assault. Victims of sexual assault can be found in various settings, including homes, schools, public places, and online.

There are several agencies in the county working with sexual assault victims. The Calaveras Crisis Center offers various resources supporting victims, including peer and professional counseling, support groups, and emergency hospital response. The Calaveras Children’s Advocacy Center provides support for minors, including licensed professional therapy, forensic interviews, advocacy, transportation, and education on the criminal justice process. The District Attorney Victim Services provides referrals, education, court accompaniment, advocacy, and assistance in seeking compensation for crime-related expenses.
