Sonora, CA — Caltrans and Yosemite National Park officials are alerting travelers that all three of the Mother Lode highway mountain passes are now closed, due to another wave of winter weather moving into the region.
As of this morning Highway 120 Tioga Pass through Yosemite closed at Crane Flat due to icy conditions. The Highway 108 Sonora Pass gates were open for awhile yesterday but have since closed at Kennedy Meadows. Highway 4 Ebbetts Pass has remained closed from Lake Alpine for a couple of weeks now as Caltrans officials say shadier areas along the road have continued to present hazardous driving conditions due to ice.
At this point, officials will wait until the next round of storms passes before reassessing the possibilities of re-opening of the routes. As driving conditions may quickly change, motorists are advised to carry chains, have a full tank of gas and travel with extra food, water and clothing in the event your vehicle gets stuck.
