Sonora, CA — The CHP responded to a head on collision Saturday night along Highway 49 south of Jack Page Road in Tuolumne County.
The CHP Reports that 50-year-old Theodore J. Phelan drifted from the southbound lane of Highway 49 in his Jeep Cherokee directly into the path of a northbound Ford Crown Victoria driven by 61-year-old Michael Newton of Twain Harte. Newton slowed down, but was still hit by the Jeep. Phelan suffered minor injuries and was taken to Adventist Health Sonora by ambulance. Newton was treated at the scene and did not require an ambulance. Phelan was later arrested for DUI. The crash occurred minutes before midnight.
