Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Supervisors have hired a new person to head up its libraries.
Deborah Samson was unanimously voted in as the new Library Director at today’s board meeting. The position has been vacant for the past several years but the funding was restored this year. Samson told the board, “I just want to express my gratitude to the board for approving me…I am very excited to be here and start working for the education and literacy of the community.”
Touting Samson’s 22 years of experience, Assistant County Administrator Tracie Riggs expressed to the board Samson’s high praise from past employers, stating, “Each one of them said that she was very ethical, honest and extremely dedicated.” Riggs indicated they also acknowledged that no matter what was taking place within the library she was always calm, friendly and professional.
Samson has worked as a library page, managed branches and been a director in the past with her most recent position at a library in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Riggs notes Samson had recently moved to Sonora as her husband had taken a job at a local business.
Today is Samson’s first day on the job. Her annual salary is $77,823.
