CHP Maximum Enforcement Period Starts Tonight

Sonora, CA — Beginning at 6pm, and continuing through late Sunday, all available CHP officers will be patrolling the Mother Lode highways.

Sonora Area CHP Officer David Chesson reports that the main emphasis will be on things such as speeding, driving too close and distracted driving. Officers will also keep a close eye on seat belt violations. He notes that the heaviest traffic periods are traditionally today and tomorrow when people head out, and then on Sunday when a majority head home.

The statewide CHP office reports that of the 27 traffic related fatalities last Thanksgiving, 14 were of people not wearing a seatbelt.
