Sonora, CA — The CAL Fire Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit calls on the public not to call their dispatch unless it is urgent.
Fire officials share that dispatchers have received several calls into its Emergency Command Center over the last few weeks that did not warrant an emergency response. They added, “This takes valuable and, at times, limited resources away from those who truly are in need. Please only contact 9-1-1 if you have an emergency!”
Fire officials gave these examples of situations that they say are not emergencies. Those needing to request a defensible space inspection or make a complaint about state code PRC 4291 regarding defensible space should call (209) 754-2766. They noted, “This situation, although concerning, is NOT an emergency.” Additionally, for general information regarding the unit or to request fire officials’ attendance at an event or regulations regarding equipment use, also not considered emergencies by CAL Fire TCU officials, call (209) 754-3831 or click here. For wildfire incident information, call (209) 754-5527.
