Sonora, CA — As part of its bankruptcy filing and sale, national retail chain Big Lots has added 58 stores to its anticipated closure list, which now includes over 400 stores across 26 states.
The latest 58 stores added include the Sonora location on Sanguinetti Road. As of last year, Big Lots was operating 1,300 stores. The closures are part of a sale agreement with Nexus Capital Management, LLC.
Big Lots is not commenting on the latest list, and it is not clear when the closures would happen. The news about Sonora came to light in an updated public bankruptcy filing late last week in a Delaware court. It is noted that some stores have been added, and later pulled, from the closure list over recent months.
Last month, Big Lots put out a statement about the sale, and related store closures, noting, “Like many other retail businesses, the company has been adversely affected by recent macroeconomic factors such as high inflation and interest rates that are beyond its control. The prevailing economic trends have been particularly challenging to Big Lots, as its core customers curbed their discretionary spending on the home and seasonal product categories that represent a significant portion of the Company’s revenue.”
The Sonora Big Lots Store opened in 2011. We will pass along more information as it becomes available.
