Threat Of Someone Having Rifle Caused Sonora High Lockdown

Sonora, CA – An email regarding someone having a rifle at Sonora High forced a lockdown of the campus this afternoon.

The lockdown was just lifted at 12:50 p.m. Sonora Police reported a message was received by someone at the school that someone else was in the restroom with a rifle. They added that officers arrived on scene within 30 seconds of the call and the school was placed on lockdown.

“The school was thoroughly checked and we were unable to find any suspects or firearms,” advised police, adding, “We were quickly able to use the IP address and found out that the message was sent from Kansas.”

This address has been linked with similar messages all over the country, and local and federal agencies are looking into this matter, according to police, stating, “There is no indication that there is an active threat to the school or community.”

The school emailed students and parents to alert them to the situation. The email that was sent out is below:

[SUHSD] The Sonora PD has ordered a lockdown of the Sonora High School Campus. The campus is currently locked down. We will provide more information as we receive it. Students and staff who are off campus should stay off campus until further notice.
