Man Killed In Tuolumne House Fire

Tuolumne, CA — The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office has identified a man who was killed in a recent residential fire in the area of Bodenhammer Avenue, near Oak Street, in the community of Tuolumne.

Firefighters responded to the incident late Saturday evening.

A caller reported to dispatch that two men lived at the home, and when deputies arrived, they were able to confirm that only one of those men was able to exit the home. The Tuolumne County Coroner responded as the other man was located and pronounced dead. Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, Ashley Boujikian, reports that he has been identified as 84-year-old Richard Mello.

It is not immediately clear what sparked the house fire and officials have been investigating the incident. We will pass along more information if it becomes available.
