Calaveras Attempted Murder Suspect Caught In Stockton

Stockton, CA — A multi-agency law enforcement effort helped to capture 34-year-old Johnny Ray Miller of West Point who was wanted in connection to a violent incident this past August.

The earlier incident happened in the West Point area and Miller’s charges included attempted murder, carjacking, and shooting at an occupied motor vehicle.

The Calaveras Sheriff’s Office, and the CHP, worked closely with the Calaveras District Attorney to obtain an arrest warrant.

Miller was located in the 8900 block of Highway 88 on Wednesday, in a rural area of Stockton. Due to the high-profile nature of the crime, the US Marshals Service Task Force assisted and helped to bring in air support from the Stockton Police Department and CHP, and a SWAT Team from the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office.

Miller initially attempted to run away when officials arrived, but he was captured quickly afterward. He was booked into San Joaquin County Jail and will soon be transferred to Calaveras County Jail.

Other agencies that assisted include the Calaveras Probation Department, San Joaquin AB109 Task Force, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s Special Service Unit, and the Delta Regional Auto Theft Task Force.
