Annual Water Ditch Outage Underway

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne Utilities District is asking customers to conserve water this week as part of the annual ditch outage.

The Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) Tuolumne Main Canal conveys 95% of TUD’s drinking water supply and it is currently shut down (effective yesterday) for annual maintenance through Sunday, October 20. TUD asks everyone to limit water use while PG&E makes yearly repairs and improvements.

Without water flowing in the ditches, the only supply available is from storage tanks and limited-capacity groundwater wells. TUD asks customers to limit outside watering, not wash vehicles, turn off automatic sprinklers, and repair water leaks.

TUD adds that for irrigation/agricultural ditch customers, periodic outages will continue through December as part of the annual maintenance.
