Green Street Closing Again For Courthouse Project

Sonora, CA — The ongoing construction of a new three-story elevator at the historic Yaney Courthouse will require the extended closure of Green Street between Jackson Street and Yaney Avenue.

Green Street was first closed when the project got underway in August, but the contractor, Boyer Construction, agreed to reopen it for the recent Sonora High School Homecoming Parade. Boyer reports that the road will close again, effective this Thursday morning, at 5 am, and likely remain so for at least a couple of months.

Marked detours will be set up around the construction site. The courthouse building has been abandoned since 2021 and the elevator is an Americans with Disabilities Act requirement in order to utilize it for other new purposes. The nearly $2 million contract for the elevator project was approved by the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors earlier this year.
