Tuolumne County Fire Department Receives Life Saving Grants

Sonora, CA – Four new local, state and federal grants are helping the Tuolumne County Fire Department (TCFD) purchase lifesaving equipment for firefighters and the public.

Those grants totaling almost $102,000 were received over the summer. In June, a $10,000 grant from the Sonora Area Foundation was used to purchase new rope rescue equipment, which is required to be replaced after ten years of service. A second grant tentatively approved for a Highway Traffic Safety Grant in July for $17,826 is for rescue devices that will help in the rescue, extrication, and medical care of those involved in motor vehicle crashes. The third grant was part of a $324 million Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant. In August, TCFD learned that its micro-grant application for firefighter gear had been approved for $61,090.90. Just last month, CAL Fire awarded the department a $12,983.48 grant for new radios, coats and pants. For a complete breakdown of each grant, click here.
