Meetings Next Week For Mokelumne Amador Calaveras Forest Resilience Project

Sonora, CA – The Stanislaus and El Dorado National Forests, working with the Upper Mokelumne Watershed Authority, is holding two meetings regarding the Mokelumne Amador Calaveras Forest Resilience Project—one virtual and the other an in-person meeting.

The project (MAC 2) is a 246,838-acre planning effort spanning two forests, managed by the Amador Ranger District of the Eldorado National Forest and the Calaveras Ranger District of the Stanislaus National Forest. It aims to reduce fuel consumption and forest thinning while mitigating the spread of non-native invasive plants. Forest officials relay that these treatments will be designed to retain mature and old growth features.

The project will involve a virtual meeting on Monday, October 21, and an in-person meeting on Tuesday, October 22. The virtual meeting will provide an overview of the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) process, potential activities, and maps for locating homes and areas of concern. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. The in-person meeting will also begin at 6 p.m. and last until 8 p.m. It is being held at the Calaveras County Health and Human Services office located at 509 East St. Charles Street in San Andreas.
