Several Fees Increased In Sonora, While Others Need More Review

Sonora, CA — The Sonora City Council voted to increase many of the fees for city services like business license changes, burn permits, special event permits, and after-hours inspections.

It was noted that the goal is to cover the city’s costs of providing the services.

However, one proposed fee that was pulled, for further review, was an increase for an annual permit to operate a short-term rental, from $140 currently to $400. There were concerns raised about whether the increase is too steep and a revised proposal is anticipated to come back at a later time.

The city is also putting on hold plans to increase building permit fees after concerns were raised at the meeting that the cost to build a home in Sonora is already much higher compared to many other places.

The list of other fee increases, minus those mentioned, were approved 5-0. They take effect immediately.

You can find the full list of changes by clicking here (minus transient occupancy fees and the final page that lists building permit fees).
