A Pacific storm will bring periods of moderate to heavy snow and gusty wind to the mountains from Wednesday afternoon into Friday.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Sierra Nevada above 3,000 feet from Wednesday afternoon through Friday morning.
Total snow accumulation will range from one to two feet above the 3,000 foot elevation.
The heaviest snow and strongest wind is expected Wednesday into Thursday.
Hazardous winter driving is possible during this period with travel delays and chain controls are likely.
Drier weather will develop over the weekend.
A Winter Storm Watch means there is potential for significant snow and gusty wind impacting travel.
