Sonora, CA—A witness identified a Sonora man as the suspect who broke into a downtown business, stole a valuable statue, and was arrested.
Sonora Police Officers were called to the Benjamin Fig’s store located at 129 S Washington Street/Highway 49 near Theal Street on Thursday, October 17th, just before midnight for a report of a store break-in. SPD reports that a worker at a nearby business heard glass breaking and then saw a man take an item from behind the shattered window. The witness followed the suspect and confronted them regarding the item, a statue worth around 1,000 dollars, according to the price tag. The worker was able to get the statue back from the suspect.
The witness gave a description of the suspect, and officers canvassed the downtown area. They spotted the suspect, 61-year-old transient Stephen Patrick Taylor, nearby and arrested him. He faces felony charges of burglary and vandalism over $400 for the broken window.
