The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the western slope of the northern Sierra Nevada.
The Advisory will be in effect from 11 PM this evening until 5 PM Thursday.
Snow is forecast for elevations above 6,000 feet.
The snow levels may drop down to around 5,000 feet early Thursday morning.
The total snow accumulations will range from three inches to half-a-foot.
The heaviest snowfall is expected late tonight through Thursday afternoon, then scattered snow showers will persist.
Winds could gust as high as forty-five mph. Such gusty winds could bring down tree branches.
Expect and plan for the possibility of snow covered roads, slippery road conditions, chain controls and travel delays.
A second wave of moisture and snow showers is forecast to move into the area Friday evening through Saturday.
