Lengthy Italian Bar Road Closure Planned During Construction

Sonora, CA — A stretch of Italian Bar Road in Tuolumne County will be closed for over a month so that needed storm damage repairs can be made.

We reported in September that the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors approved a $498,000 contract to do the work. The roadway was damaged during winter storms occurring in late 2022 and early 2023.

The closure of Italian Bar Road will be a half mile north of the Lost Dutchman’s Mining Association Italian Bar Camp. It is near the South Fork Stanislaus River area. No traffic will be allowed to pass through starting on Wednesday, November 6, and continuing through Friday, December 13.  It will briefly reopen for Thanksgiving weekend, from November 27 through December 2.
