Marijuana Deliveries, Tobacco Licenses, On TC Supervisors Agenda

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors has a long list of items to vote on at Tuesday’s meeting.

Included is an ordinance that would regulate the delivery of medical cannabis in the county. In 2022, the state legislature passed a law that says counties cannot prohibit businesses from doing medical cannabis deliveries to patients, effective this year.

In addition, the Supervisors will give direction on what type of tax rate should be placed on the deliveries. Meeting documents note that Calaveras County takes 5% of gross receipts, Stanislaus County takes 8%, and El Dorado County taxes 4%.

In other business, the board will vote on whether to implement a tobacco license program in Tuolumne County that would include a fee to be paid annually by sellers of tobacco products. The initiative would allow the county to monitor and enforce tobacco-related retail activities. The proposed fee is $200, which would cover about 60% of the cost of issuing and enforcing the program. It would be overseen by the Community Development Department. Click here to view a story about the last time it was discussed by the board.

Tuesday’s meeting will also feature a discussion about putting reflectors on Tuolumne Road for safer night travel, an annual report from Access Tuolumne, and a discussion about a study related to the county potentially joining Pioneer Community Energy, a California Community Choice Aggregator, which provides energy to communities.

Tuesday’s meeting starts at 9 am.
