New Tally In Tuolumne County Election Results

Tuolumne County, CA – The Tuolumne County Elections office has a new tally having finished counting nearly all but 100 of the 4,000 mail-in ballots that were announced as still pending on Election Night, producing no change in the race results.

As we reported here on Wednesday, one of the too-close-to-call races is the Twain Harte Community Services District Board, where voters chose three out of the five candidates. Dennis Mitchell continues to lead with 411 or 29 percent, of the vote; his challengers have also gained, with Mary Dearborn in third place with 281 votes, having come within five votes of Gary Sipperley in second place with 286 votes. And while Richard Knudson is in fourth place, he added to his tally. He has 263 votes but has dropped from 8 votes to 18 behind Dearborn.  Even with that widening, the race is still too close to call, as there are still around 740 total ballots to count, which arrived after Election Day.

“Conditional ballots, received from individuals that were not registered to vote in time. There’s about 440 of those. And then we have close to 100 ballots that still need to be processed that we have ready to go. Then we have just under 200 provisional ballots where the person either didn’t sign it or the signature was not matching,” advised Tuolumne County Clerk and Auditor-Controller Donnie McNair.

The voters of provisional ballots have until December 1st to cure or fix their ballots to be counted. Regarding voter turnout, that number has hit 79.94 percent, a number McNair is proud of, stating, “I’m really excited; we’re just under 80 percent, so I’m really excited will break 80 percent. I think that is a great turnout.”
