Sacramento, CA — Mother Lode District Four Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil, who recently switched from the Democratic to Republican Party, is criticizing plans for a special legislative session in response to the election of President-Elect Donald Trump.
We reported yesterday that Governor Gavin Newsom requested the session to focus on things like “civil rights, reproductive freedom, climate action and immigrant families.”
Alvarado-Gil says, “This is another example of how disconnected the governor and progressives are from everyday Californians. Rising costs, surging crime, the need for better economic opportunities, and a chance for families to thrive — these are the issues that people care about.”
She continues, “Californians know that the supermajority’s agenda has abandoned them, and leaves behind the most vulnerable it claims to protect. The people have had enough, and they made that crystal clear by passing Proposition 36—a crucial step toward making our communities safer.”
Proposition 36 increases penalties for several felony crimes.
The special session is planned for December 2.
