Update: Highway 49 Reopens In Calaveras Following Big Rig Crash

Update at 11:49 am: Caltrans reports that Highway 49 is back open in both directions following the earlier big rig crash near Carson Hill.

Update at 11:07 am: Highway 49 remains closed in Calaveras County between Red Hills Road and the Stevenot over New Melones due to a logging truck rollover crash. Caltrans reports that there is still not an estimated reopening time.

Original story posted at 9:11 am: Calaveras County, CA — The CHP reports that a logging truck has crashed on Highway 49 and it is blocking both directions of travel.

It happened at 9 am near Carson Hill, between Red Hill Access Road and Old Highway 49. Caltrans is responding to provide traffic control as the crash is blocking both directions of Highway 49.

Travel with caution in the area and be prepared for activity. An ambulance is also responding to the scene.
