Sonora, CA—Local health officials have released a new CalFresh Go guide that encourages physical activity outdoors and is a good source for participants and the public to utilize locations to get that exercise.
The CalFresh Healthy Living program, part of the Tuolumne County Health Department, has released a new Go Guide, a tool designed to promote physical activity in accessible outdoor spaces. The guide, created in collaboration with the Tuolumne Thrives coalition, includes a map of free outdoor activities such as hiking trails, playgrounds, lakes, dog parks, and urban walks. It also provides health tips, links to resources, and recipes for making flavored water.
“We’re excited to offer this new resource to support CalFresh-eligible residents in regularly participating in physical activity since exercise is such an important part of maintaining good health,” said Elizabeth Ramos, coordinator of the CalFresh Healthy Living program.
Regular physical activity improves brain health, strengthens bones and muscles, and reduces disease risk, advises health officials. The recommended daily activity for adults is moderate to vigorous, lasting 30 minutes, while for children it is 60 minutes.
The guide is available at the County Public Health Department and distributed to Tuolumne Thrives partners. Parts of the guide can also be accessed here on the CalFresh Healthy Living website and click here in a PDF.
