Sonora, CA — The Board of Directors of the Sonora Area Foundation selected the non-profit Tuolumne County Alliance for Resources and the Environment (TuCare) as the 2024 Elaine Symons Community Impact Award winner.
It includes a $20,000 grant award that can be used however TuCare chooses.
The unanimous vote by the SAF board of directors was made in honor of retiring TuCare Executive Director Melinda Fleming. SAF Board members Marianne Wright, Vicki Albrecht and Jeff Sargo presented the award at a special retirement dinner on Saturday evening.
The award is given out annually to a non-profit that demonstrates exemplary work in the community. Still to come, according to the foundation, is the announcement of this year’s recipient of the Irving J. Symons Award. Past winners include Interfaith, WATCH, Jamestown Family Resource Center, Give Someone A Chance and several others.
TuCare was established in 1988 and educates and advises the public regarding the use of natural resources.
