Suspect’s Claims Of Innocence In Brawl Proved False By Security Video

Sonora, CA – A Sonora man’s claim of innocence in starting a fight at the Camp Justice homeless camp ended with another man being airlifted for treatment and a video showing which one was telling the truth.

Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Deputies recently responded to the Dambacher Detention Center lobby after a report of a battery. When deputies arrived, they spoke to the visibly injured victim, who reported that 50-year-old Nathan Wolfson had inflicted the wounds. He added that Wolfson had hit him with a stick and kicked him repeatedly in the face and torso, causing him to lose consciousness. The victim had to be med-flighted to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for treatment.

Wolfson had left the area but deputies later located him in the Jamestown area. Wolfson told deputies he had defended himself from the victim after catching the victim in his vehicle and confronting him. Wolfson also claimed that it was the victim who initiated the altercation by attacking him with a stick, so he had to defend himself. Another man with Wolfson corroborated his story of events. Inside Wolfson’s vehicle, deputies located a painter’s pole similar to the description of the stick used during the altercation.

“Due to the conflicting statements and claim of self-defense, deputies left but continued to investigate,” stated sheriff’s spokesperson Ashley Boujikian.

That digging paid off when investigators got their hands on video surveillance footage the next day. It showed Wolfson initiating the fight by striking the victim with the pole and kicking the victim multiple times.

Deputies found Wolfson at the Woods Creek Mobile Home Park, off Highway 108 in Jamestown, and arrested him for felony assault with a deadly weapon and battery with serious bodily injury. Currently, there is no update on the victim’s condition.
