Washington, DC — President-elect Donald Trump has tabbed Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to lead a new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) aimed at cutting spending and closing the budget deficit.
Speaking on the House Floor, Mother Lode Republican Congressman Tom McClintock stated that he has a message for both of them, “Just say no to subsidies.”
McClintock cited subsidies for Insurance, electric cars, mass transit, sugar, milk, solar panels, airline tickets, housing, tuition, healthcare, film production, and energy. He added, “It is hard to find a sector of the economy that isn’t ripe with subsidies.”
Further stating, “Insurance, for example, is how markets assign a dollar value to risk. It is risky to build a house in a flood zone and high insurance premiums reflect that reality. Subsidized insurance rates invite people to take risks that high premiums would otherwise warn them against.”
McClintock says subsidies lead to rising prices on goods, which leads to additional higher subsidies in the future. He argued that the capitalist system, and not the government, should dictate the cost of goods.
