Update at 9:15 am: The Sonora Police Department is providing more information about a Wednesday evening crash that caused a widespread power outage. It was a hit-and-run.
The PD reports, “A westbound 1998 silver Honda CRV, believed to be traveling at a high rate of speed, left the roadway and collided with a power pole at the 200 block of Mono Way. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene before the officer’s arrival, and it is unknown at this time if there were any passengers or injuries to the involved parties.”
The collision caused the power pole to break and fall onto the Honda, downing live power lines. The roadway between Sanguinetti Road and Mono Way was closed for several hours. PG&E crews remained on scene through the evening, making repairs.

Original story posted at 7:42 am: Sonora, CA — A crash on Mono Way, late in the eight o’clock hour Wednesday evening, knocked out power to much of Sonora.
It happened near the turnoff to Barretta Street. Details regarding the crash have not been released. Power was fully restored during the early morning hours. Be prepared for some traffic delays this morning on Mono Way near the Barretta Street intersection.
