Home Improvement Scam Reported In Tuolumne County

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office reports people are allegedly trying to make money off a paving scam.

A community member reported that the men in question were driving a white Dodge Pickup truck and had a business card stating they are with George Stanley Paving. The sheriff’s department researched this incident and found that this company name has been associated with other past scams.  As in this recent case, the scammers approach property owners and say they have leftover materials and can fix potholes or driveways at bargain rates. The sheriff’s office reports they then raise the price, use defective products, and often cash the checks and leave the area before victims know they have been ripped off.

The sheriff’s office warns everyone to be wary of door-to-door home improvement services, and not let anyone into your home unless you have researched them. You can also ask to see their Contractors State License Board Pocket License, and then look it up on the Contractors Board Website to see if it is valid.
