Calaveras, CA — Saturday the 38th Annual Death Ride “Tour of the California Alps” will once again close roads in the region.
The bicycle race provides a 129 mile race over three Sierra Passes, the 8,730-foot Ebbetts Pass is the highest. The race will impact Highway 4, Ebbetts Pass from 5:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Highway 89, Monitor Pass, will be closed from 5:00 am to 12:00 pm. Highway 89 from Markleeville to the intersection of HWY 4 and HWY 89 will be closed from 5:00 am to 12:00 pm. It is anticipated that access to the Carson River north of Markleeville will be available shortly after 7:00 am.
Portions of HWY 88 Carson Pass from the Top of Carson Pass to Woodfords and the segment of HWY 89 from Woodfords to Markleeville will be subject to lowered speed limit zones and associated longer travel times.
The highway closures and reduced speed limits are approved under permit from the State of California. For the safety of the special event participants, plan alternate travel routes.
