Update at 3:45 p.m.: Sonora Police Department dispatch reports that traffic is moving freely once again on Highway 49. Officers were directing traffic along the roadway near Pesce Way for more than a half an hour. Further details on the crash are below.
Sonora, CA — Emergency personnel are on the scene of a vehicle versus tree crash on Highway 49 in the Sonora area that is backing up traffic.
Sonora police report that the vehicle went off the roadway across from the Arco gas station on Pesce Way. It then went down an embankment and smashed into a tree near Columbia Way. There are reports of injuries to an elderly woman’s leg. An ambulance is heading to the scene. Officers are directing traffic and there is plenty of activity in the area so motorists may want avoid the area. We will have updates as more information comes into the news center.
