Greenhouse Gas Emissions On The Decline In California

Sacramento, CA — The California Air Resources Board (CARB) reports that greenhouse gas emissions have fallen below 1990 levels.

The Associated Press reports that at Wednesday’s CARB meeting, it was noted that pollution levels are down by 13-percent since a 2004 peak. It is the equivalent of removing 12 million cars from the road or saving 6-billion gallons of gasoline a year. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions has been a priority of the past two governors, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jerry Brown. The state board added that California is well on pace to meet long-term pollution reduction goals. The state has surpassed the target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to the 1990 level by 2020. The next goal is to reduce emissions 40-percent further by 2030.
