Jamestown, CA — Planners of a major roadway improvements project in Jamestown signal that long-term travel delays and detours are about to begin.
Sierra Mountain Construction, Inc., which was awarded a contract for constructing intersection changes at 5th Avenue, Highway 49/108 and Jamestown Road, was set to begin the actual roadwork in mid-July after completing essential fieldwork. The project scope also involves creating a traffic light at 5th Avenue and the highway.
What motorists should now know is that a portion of 5th Avenue will close to thru traffic next Monday, July 16, and could potentially remain so through the Sept. 3 Labor Day weekend holiday. The involved portion of 5th Avenue is located between the highway to 350 feet south of the intersection, where the CHP office is located. Detour signs will be in place.
As reported here, according to Tuolumne County Community Resources Agency officials, 115 days have been allocated for the overall project, which before it completes sometime in December, will involve various traffic phases that will create traffic delays of a few to 20 minutes at a time.
