Update: Sonora Power Outage Restored, Calaveras Lingers

Updated at 6:17 am: PG&E is now estimating that the 182 customers in Mountain Ranch will be restored by 11 am.

Updated at 5:50 am: Around 2,600 PG&E customers lost power at around 7:40 pm on Sunday evening, impacting the greater Sonora area. The company has not released a cause, but the power was restored around 11:20 pm .

Meanwhile, there was a power outage in Calaveras County, which started shortly after midnight and is impacting 182 customers in the area of Mountain Ranch. PG&E is hoping for full restoration there during the six o’clock hour this morning.

Original story posted at 8:10 pm (4/20/25) Sonora, CA — PG&E reports that 2,640 customers lost electricity at around 7:40 pm in the Sonora area.

The company reports that it was “unplanned” and a team is “evaluating the electrical system to identify damaged sections and make necessary repairs in order to safely turn the power back on.”

It is impacting much of downtown Sonora and East Sonora.

The company does not have an estimated full restoration time. Some customers have been notified that power will be restored around 2:30 am. PG&E reports that once the cause is located, repairs will be made, and the power will be restored.
