Employee Of Local Big Box Store Arrested For Embezzlement

Sonora, CA — A local store launched an internal investigation to uncover an employees alleged thefts.

Sonora Police were called to the Walmart at the Crossroads Shopping Center on Sanguinetti Road in Sonora to take a sales associate into custody for stealing. When officers arrived at the store, management relayed that security had been engaged in an investigation of store cashier, 21-year-old Mikala Elizabeth David of Jamestown. She had been hired about three months prior, but for the past several weeks her cash drawer was coming up short, according to the manager. David, who was working at the time, was called to the manager’s office where she was confronted by security regarding the missing money. SPD spokesperson Krishna Livingston relays, “She did admit to taking the money and was held in the office until our officers arrived. We took her into custody and transported her to jail.”

David was charged with embezzlement. Livingston told Clarke Broadcasting that she could not give the exact amount David allegedly stole from the register, but the charges stipulate that it was for theft over $400. Her bail was set at $20,000.
