More Snow Expected For The Sierra Nevada

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Sierra Nevada above 4,000 feet, from Wednesday evening through late Thursday night.

Total heavy snow accumulations will likely range from eight inches to thirty-two inches. The higher you go, the more the snow.

Winds could gust as high as sixty mph over the crest of the Sierra.

Travel will be very difficult to impossible, including during the morning commute on Thursday.

Significant reductions in visibility are expected.

If traveling into the Sierra Nevada, consider alternate plans. Remember to carry tire chains, extra food, water and clothing.

A Winter Storm Watch means there is potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel.

Highway 108 (Sonora Pass) remains closed at Kennedy Meadows. Highway 120 (Tioga Pass) remains closed at Crane Flat. Highway 4 (Ebbetts Pass) remains closed just past the Mt. Reba turnoff. Highway 88 (Carson Pass) is open with no restrictions.
