Jamestown, CA – Motorists can see the poles and lights are up at Highway 108 and 5th Avenue in Jamestown and the next step is testing before drivers will actually have to start stopping at the intersection.
As earlier reported here, the “Signalization at 5th Avenue and State Route 108/49 Project” was awarded to Sierra Mountain Construction, Inc. in Tuolumne. Motorists have been dealing with up to 20 minutes delays while some of the work was going on over the past six months. Noting that they are at the final stretch of the project, Tuolumne County Community Resources Agency Engineering Manager Tanya Allen updates, “We [county, Caltrans and contractor] will be energizing that signal on Wednesday, January 23. We will put in additional signage to prepare motorists.” She adds that the plans are weather permitting.
The project has been in the works for six years and construction got underway in mid-summer of last year. The total cost of the project is $2.3 million.
