Helping Seniors Stay Cozy By A Fire

Sonora, CA — A local senior group wants to find some wood splitters willing to donate their skills for a good cause.

The Sierra Senior Providers, Inc. (SSPI) is asking for the public’s help to keep seniors toasty this winter by a nice blazing fire. Volunteers are needed to chop or deliver firewood for the Senior Center’s Firewood for Home Heating Program this year and assist in preparing for next winter as well. The program is directed toward lower-income, homebound and frail Tuolumne County residents age 60 and older whose primary source of heat in the winter is firewood.

For more information about volunteering, contact Leon Casas Jr. at (209) 770-5986. For more information about the Firewood for Home Heating Program, contact the Senior Center at (209) 533-2622.

Of note, SSPI operates the Senior Center located at 540 Greenley Road in Sonora. The group also serves the community through charitable programs including Meals on Wheels, congregate lunch program and firewood for home heating.
