Cold Weather Health And Safety Advisory Issued

Sonora, CA — Tuolumne County’s health officer is warning the public to take precautions for not only themselves, but pets and livestock.

Tuolumne County Health Officer Dr. Robert Bernstein cites the low temperatures and snow levels along with windy conditions for issuing the “Cold Weather Health & Safety Advisory.”  Dr. Bernstein’s concerns also center around possible power outages and hazardous driving conditions on the roadways that pose a risk to people and pets. The advisory is in place through Tuesday as temperatures will be dipping into the lower twenties and thirties.

Animals should be kept indoors. Dr. Bernstein advises that vulnerable groups such as the elderly, persons with physical and mental health disabilities, pregnant women, families with infants and small children, persons on medication for potentially life-threatening chronic illnesses, and homeless persons are at greatest risk. The county health office recommends preparing your home with emergency supplies like furnace fuel, electric space heaters, blankets, matches, a first aid kit and battery-powered radio.
