San Andreas, CA — Mark Twain Saint Josephs Hospital (MTSJ) will now be called Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC). Officials say it is all part of a new vision and the name change will reflect how MTSJ has grown into more than just a hospital, but a medical center with many health services.
President Craig Marks, who joined MTSJ in May, says, “Since 1987, your community hospital has existed under the name Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital. In 2012, Catholic Healthcare West changed its name to Dignity Health; of which we are a member of. Today, our name changes to Mark Twain Medical Center which is a member of Dignity Health.” Marks adds, “Mark Twain Medical Center is the center of healthcare for the residents and visitors to Calaveras County.” He says, “This does not mean we will meet every healthcare need, but for those services we don’t provide we have partners throughout the Dignity Health System that can. In addition, there are many services that we have not provided in the past that we can and should provide locally.”
Medical Center Officials say they will be announcing more changes to come in 2013. A new sign is expected to go up on the medical center this Thursday or Friday.
