Berryhill Awaits Details

Sacramento, CA — Upon first glance, California Senator Tom Berryhill has some positive things to say about Governor Jerry Brown’s budget proposal.

As reported previously, the Governor unveiled his $97.6 billion spending plan yesterday. To read about the details, click here.

“California isn’t out of the woods yet so I am glad to hear the Governor is committed to keeping a tight leash on spending,” reads a statement from Berryhill, a Republican that represents District 14. “At a glance I like the concept of eliminating education categoricals, and sending money directly to classrooms, but as we all know, the devil is in the details.

He adds, “Central Valley communities have been particularly hard hit by prisoner realignment so I remain concerned about how he plans on addressing that in the budget.”

The Governor is proposing to increase spending 4% over last fiscal year. California is receiving $6 billion in new funds this year following the passage of Proposition 30.
